When I moved to the states, I soon realized I didn't quite 'fit in'. After a year I went 'home' for a visit and to my surprise I didn't 'fit in' or quite belong there anymore. It felt very odd. I was aware that my consciousness was the maker and builder of my life and so I asked and answered the question "What do I want to experience"? I put my imagination to work creating a picture of what I wanted, what it felt like to have it/be it, what my friends were now saying to me, everything I could think of to make it as real as possible to me. I kept what I was imagining at the forefront of my consciousness - I focused only on what I wanted to experience and today I'm the happiest person on the planet in my new country. I do hope this is helpful and wish you many blessings in your new life.

I loved Deepak Chopra's answer to your question..Deepak will be lecturing in Australia April 24-27, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane(www.deepakchopra.com, and if you could make it to one of these events, I'm sure it would be a great opportunity for networking. Also, there is a magazine, called 'Living Now' available in Health Stores (www.livingnow.com.au), and, as well as containing 2 articles by Deepak Chopra,it gives you a good resource for holistic and spiritual events, which seem to abound in Australia. I wish you much love, happiness, enjoyment and inspiration there.

make this situation your spiritual practice. as a yoga teacher you must know that a core feeling of connectedness with your own essence is all you need. from there everything becomes easy. now is the time to realize that in spite of our differences we are all the same. concentrate on that. find the common ground and let it unfold from there. know that the feeling of separation is your own projection and believe that only love is real... my best wishes to you

I experienced similar disconnectedness when I moved from India to Canada 20 years ago. It is known as culture shock. I was raised in India with stories of Love and Friendship between human beings. Krishna and Sudama. And we watched movies based on love between best friends, where one man gives up his life for his best friend. This simply is not the culture in the western countries.
This culture shock can be a painful experience. Nobody seems to have time for anybody unless they have a vested interest in talking to them. Neighbours don't sit and chat with neighbours anymore. No body has any interest in anyone. And things are getting to be like that in India too now.
I think a lot of this has to do with the introduction of technology like, satellite TV, internet, Video games. People can keep themselves entertained and the need for social interaction gets diminished.
Also in the western countries, the Husband and the Wife both have to work to make ends meet, and raise kids at the same time. And it is getting like that in India too. So life is hard and people just don't have time for social interaction either.
Not that one culture is better than another, but being transplanted into another culture can be quite painful.
My recommendation would be to keep yourself busy.

Your family is with you - they are your sense of belongingness. If you can't settle down for yourself, do it for your husband and children. They need this strength, direction and acceptance from you. A sense of community will follow in time.

Deepak is correct. Love and appreciate your journey in beautiful Australia.
