Remember, those that you hurt feel just as much shame and guilt about having allowed themselves to be your victim. Your feeling bad doesn't help them. Not in the least. Feeling bad, on the part of the victim or the perpetrator, leads to more pain all around. The world doesn't need more pain. The world needs more beauty. Put your mind to creating something that you can give to the world (yes, including your "victims")- something you feel is beautiful.
Not advising to you a course of action. Merely making a suggestion...one that I will take to heart for my own life. Self-pity is a retarded response to life. I should know since I have been wallowing in it for years. Good luck.

I too have spent countless hours of depression living in the past. wanting to destroy parts of it. or wishing I had the joyous parts. back. If only I could rewrite the script!
However, living in the past, is not living in today. "the Present" The present being the gift God gave us of living one day at a time and being able to start each and every day we have left in our lives as as a brand new beginning. The past is only memory, and if we let the programming of the old control us now, we can never ,ever grow and get better, braver , and teachable.. Just knowing that we don't want to live our old ways, is a step to a new beginning.
I remember a time making a list of my personal positives and deficits, and it seemed the deficits ruled by a long shot, so why live? what I finally accepted is that I have a perception problem. I am not nearly as awful as I thought I was. Writing has been so helpful. Let the pencil and thoughts fly-don't edit. I truly believe that if the intention comes from your whole soul, you get on your knees and pray to the God of your understanding for help, He will reveal himself. He will help. His door is always open, and His love unending. It is us that closes the door.
Something inside of you is telling you that suicide is not the answer or you would have not written your post and asked Dr. Chopra 's advice. Consider that a huge step. Today, take time to feel and find gratitude wherever it shows up. If I am living in my head and my head only, it turns out my head lies alot. We are all on a soul learning journey.
Besides, it might just be if you end it now, you have to come back and do it all over again.
Some things I want to get right this time around. And when you are ready...make amends. The people you do this with may not be willing to forgive so having expectations is dangerous. Do it in the spirit of love, Cleaning out the closet of shame and self hatred invites growth. Some of us dig ruts in our minds, furnish them with all kinds of junk, move in and stay there forever. Being one that USED to do this, I will tell you that there is a way to climb out of the dark and see the light. get out of self, help others, and embrace today. The present. God's present to you.
I wish you peace.

I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. As a psychologist I know that when serious thoughts of suicide plague us it is time to seek help.
In God's eyes, there is no good or bad. All he cares is about this person's self transformation.

To break through from out past is the path that we all need to learn.

In my opinion, we all need to learn Chopra's Law of least Effort.

First, we need to learn the acceptance. That is first to learn to accept ourselves. For whatever has happened, or is happening, we need to accept them as whatever they are at this moment. We don't struggle to against the universe at this moment.

Second, we need to take responsibility on whatever things we see as problems. See them as opportunities to learn, and as the path that leads us to our own transformation.

Third, we don't need to defend ourselves. The more we try to convince people to believe our point of view, the more we lost sights of reality. Learn to be open to other's pion of views.

Chopra's book will help you find who you really are. Once you can connect to your true self, you will discover a whole new way to see yourself and your past.
