Parenting is one of the most challenging jobs of all. Helping to establish values, morals, for our children through their experiences each day, our tools are tested and proven, hopefully more often than not. At one time, a book came to my attention about using logic consequence to settle disputes. The premise is one that puts the responsiblity for choice into the hands to the child, using the parent to protect that child from any extreme responses, within reason. One example, when a child was unable to remember to take their lunch bag, prepared by the parent, to school, a three day notice was provided. Each of the three days, the child was not to recieve a reminder from the parent. If the child did not take the lunch, no parent would arrange to drive the lunch to school. Using the school advisors when this step is being taken, can and should take place, in order that the child is cared for properly as they make the transition to independant memory choices. In some cases, the education institution, may step in verbally, or provide a snack. While this may sound harsh, it is a step toward interdependance and independence. To quote, "It takes a village to raise a child". Be In Good Health.
