Put a blind trust on Sudharsan kriya and put your efforts for three months. I will be suggesting the same for another chronic Depression Patient. Like i do with a smiling face. :)
I do know it is very tough to survive with Major Depression with out medications. Consult Mental health Professionals and be on medication just for support and then firm on sadhana and vairagya.

As someone who has long been involved in the field of anxiety disorders (primarily as a newsletter publisher to support those with panic/anxiety), may I offer an additional simple idea? "Strange thoughts" and frightening ideas can be common symptoms for many of us who have had such a disorder. To read a book such as the old "classics" written by Dr. Claire Weekes regarding "nervous illness" may bring you a great deal of peace in that regard. Deep fears of "mental illness" or "going insane" are often part & parcel of the spectrum. If that is the case for you, you would be greatly relieved to know how common (and treatable) that is. Further, medication can be very helpful. I resisted medication for a very long time since it was not in line with my more holistic viewpoint, but when it became clear that more help was needed, I agreed to try them. I was worth it. Blessings and peace to you.

I've dealt with depression, dark thoughts, etc. throughout my life and found that they always correspond with my lifestyle choices. Basically when I'm not regularly doing vigorous exercise, eating properly, and meditating these dark realities begin creeping in. When I'm disciplined in my working out, eating great, meditating, and avoiding the regular use of alcohol and/or drugs I have no problem with these issues. I've met scores of people here in Seattle that are on meds for depression and none of them exercise, meditate, or eat properly. I have compassion for those who suffer but have to wonder if people are doing the right thing by themselves. I'm also very leery of all of these Diagnoses of the Psyche by so called professionals. We have the ability to find balance in ourselves but you have to be willing to listen and learn and implement new behaviors if you wish to change. Best wishes to you and have faith in your ability to transcend. You can do it! Peace & Love, Brian

Thank you deepdepression for your comments. I deal with severe depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. I too. I get frustrated at peoples lack of consideration when they've never walked in that person's shoes. I was once full of energy, happy, etc. Then menopause, severe depression, etc came. I attempted suicide couple years ago. I needed medication to get back on my feet again. Hormones, body chemicals, etc CAN throw a person off balance. Some people DO need medication at times. Deepak is absolutely correct.

I had the same problem. Scary, obsessive thoughts are a part of anxiety, particularly OCD. It is not dangerous just extremely unsettling. You should talk to a professional like i did and engage in Cognitive Therapy. The good news is you can beat it without medication! may peace be with you!

I'm glad someone asked this question! I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The only time I have felt truly balanced was when living by myself in a forest with the time to exercise at least two hours a day and meditating for 2-3 hours per day, living on fresh vegetables with no coffee, no alcohol and no processed food. This was my reaction to my marriage breaking down, so sort of by accident I found what I needed. As I moved back into regular 9-5 work, started to have the occasional drink again, entered a new relationship this healthy somewhat monastic life slipped away and the manic behavior and devastating depression returned. I now use drugs to supplement my meditation and less regular exercise. For me they are all part of me prescription for living.

As someone who deals with deep depression and occasional suicidal thoughts, medication has been a life saver. When a persons brain chemistry doesn't work properly, it is no different than someone taking insulin for diabetes. I meditate every day, access talk therapy when needed, and work very hard to stay out of the "dark." I understand that it must be difficult for those who don't struggle with mental health issues to understand those of us who do, but peoples attitudes toward mental illness makes those of us who suffer feel ashamed to admit it or even seek help. It is inferred that we are broken and can just snap out of it. Every ounce of love and compassion I have goes out to fellow sufferers. Take care of yourself and seek help that is meaningful to you, and effective for you. Things do get better : )

I agree with Deepak. A lot of people warn against using drugs to help solve emotional problems, rightfully so. However, proper medication can help motivate you to take those first steps in dealing with some personal emotional issues. The problem is when people continue to use the drugs for a boost once they're back in the game. Your brain needs time to grow stronger when facing your issues. If you just depend on the crutch (medication) you will become emotionally weaker and weaker until that crutch is your whole support system. You can't take it away now, it's all you've got. It's your happiness. So you spend all your money on the crutch, losing everything in the process. Then one day you realize you can no longer afford the crutch and/or you need help. the crutch is then taken away from you and you collapse to the floor, a cold, flimsy, shapeless puddle of bones.

I noticed that you suggest that this person may have other "mental problems." While this person says that they have "negative and scary" thoughts, without knowing what the thoughts are about, don't you think you should be more careful compounding the anxiety this person has by possibly driving them into the arms of a psychiatrist? Sometimes a scary thought for one person may be as simple as going to a new job, which could be dealt with easily with talk therapy. I have seen too many people's lives ruined by antidepressants, and I think they should be a last resort. If you present a good therapist with certain symptoms, then yes, you might need some form of medication, and if you feel you might hurt yourself, go immediately to a hospital, but if you feel as if it's something you can work through, get some support to work through it! :) Brett
