Any time I am confronted with a situation that strikes a deep emotional chord in me, I have learned that it is important to really take time to understand where the emotions are coming from and what they are trying to tell me about myself. Everything in life is presenting us with an opportunity to better know ourselves. Even though this issue concerns a friend and a situation outside of yourself, it sounds to me as though your internal response is striking a deeply personal chord. If this is so, the core issue may not be about your friend, but perhaps is truly about you and some unresolved issue within yourself that is yearning for resolution and closure. It is not that I am assuming this about your circumstance, mind you. I simply want to offer a tool I have come to find very useful, which is simply to take the time to sit with yourself and mindfully ask what is truly bothering you. If I have learned anything in practicing this, it is that things are seldom as they seem. I am not always upset for the reasons I think I am, nor do I need to be. I too have loved ones who make choices I don't agree with, who are often self destructive and cause me great concern for their wellbeing. Yet, if I am honest with myself, I find that it becomes all too easy to think that I know where they need to be, that I know what is best for them. I find that I am trying to control them, rather than allowing them to be where they are, when I really want to be loving them for who they are and where they are. Without realizing it, I have judged. Something else I have learned is how responsive people become when you come from a true sense of caring, rather from that sense of knowing better than they do. I hope what I have shared about my own process has been helpful to you. I enjoy sharing the tools that have worked best for me, yet you know best what will work for you.

Mr. Chopra:

Just wondering why you participated in the ABC program/quasi debate. I have heard this Michael Sherman (?), skeptic before, to me, he is a "time waster" and redundant. He just goes around in mental circles and I just don't think he is worth his fifteen minutes of fame!!

Personally, I believe that your friend is being conned. If you notice, the www is full of so-called gurus who have the keys to abundance .. "we'll give you this secrret they say, only give us your credit card details first!" Of course" Otherwise how did they get so faboulously rich? It's certainly not by the Universal law that Dr Chopra preaches; I should know I've tried it for years and it has brough me nothing but grief and failure, money wise. As Ghandi said: I like your Christ but I don't like you Christians. Chopra's philosophy reeks of the prosperity gospel through and through only with his sanskrist/hindu slant on it. You can not serve both spirituality and be filthy rich at the same time. My advise to you regarding your friend in a cult- be brutally honest, don't bother with the gently gently approach. All these so called new age enlightened groups need to be exposed for what they are, leaving people emotionaly, physically and finacially drained with the & law of spirituality having no effect whatsoever. I've prActiced it for yeard to no avail. I've discovered my unique talents ( poet)I'ver served otheras with it by having it opublished in various literary mags, . All three parts have been fulfilled. Someone please tell me why I am still on poverty street?I've practiced all 7 of them faithfully.NOTHING HAPPENED! You Deepak, are manipulating vulnerable minds, and using your medicall powers deceptively. I now have to xcome to terms with the fact that I'll probably be on struggle stree for the rest of my life. Have you ever though of taking your eminars to the poorest of the poor in Africa? Of course not because noone could a) afford you, & b)your spirituall laws would defy spiritual law 4 the law of least effort. your laws would have to work to hard with little result. That would really show the world if your laws are true. Aggain the words of Ghandi modiefied. I like your Christ,I don't like you christians/ hindus etc that turn spirituality into claim it and grab. The Unverse is not a catalogue.

I tend to agree. Some of these movements are harmless. Of course, some are not, but when you start getting into the actual cost, you have to also ask "how many books/materials came with it?" "How many hours of dvd's etc"

Real spirituality may be free but books do cost money.. some of these workshops will have 40+ hours worth of lecture time and 2-3 books to read.

If you were to take any higher learning course in virtually anything else, and needed books, supplies, and online lectures, its going to cost a lot more.

You see, i practice spiritually and my family assumes that im in some kind of death cult because i spend 2 hours meditating everyday and studying various religious texts and occasionally some others books. The thing is that i dont belong to any organization, movement, religion etc, although admittedly i do want to join some kind of meditation or study group someday, just so that i have more people interested in such things to communicate with.
