I too am a frustrated Director of Nursing. When I read this question, it was as if I wrote it myself!! Most of the staff I supervise are very selfish and their mind set is geared towards immediate gradification. They want the paycheck, but don't want to work an honest day for an honest days pay. They have a rebelious streak towards authority and will manipulate the system to get what they want. They challenge me everyday and try to bring me to my tipping point. The medical director, administration, patients, and families appreciate me. That's all that should matter.
I try to be a mentor, but I feel like a mother giving tough love. It is hard for me because I am only 39 years old and most of the staff are ages 16-35. I hope they will mature into productive members of society. I must put my blind faith in them. For one day they will be running this world.

~Peace~
