I had just One insight in my life and it was the Right one for me.
I only have to think of it and never need to meditate on anything.
Liberation comes in a flash and there is nothing you can do to gain or loose it.
Once received no one can ever take it away from you

So believe in yourself and never ever in any one else!!

"Tell a wise person, or else keep silent,
because the mass man will mock it right away.
I praise what is truly alive,
what longs to be burned to death.

In the calm water of the love-nights,
where you were begotten, where you have begotten,
a strange feeling comes over you,
when you see the silent candle burning.

Now you are no longer caught
in the obsession with darkness,
and a desire for higher love-making
sweeps you upward.

Distance does not make you falter.
Now, arriving in magic, flying,
and finally, insane for the light,
you are the butterfly and you are gone.

And so long as you haven't experienced
this: to die and so to grow,
you are only a troubled guest
on the dark earth."
— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Yes. I just re-counted my years since initiation. It is truly a little over 20 years.

I've had much bliss through meditation. Very likely the difficult karmic times were softened due to meditation. It is not so much what kind of sensations we have during and right after meditation, but how the quality of our life and experiences in general are modified thanks to the presence of meditation. Usually meditation expands our view on life and helps us see it from a bird view. It is a beautiful view from up there. Just for that - it is worth it.

I have practiced meditation for more than 20 years (on and off sometimes). There was a wonderful term for the practice of meditation: "Research in consciousness". It suggests that we are the researchers - therefore it is nice to observe, to learn and if necessary make adjustments. But in my mind research is never related to fear. Life is a flow and things change all the time. No need to make conclusion what will be "for the rest of anyone's life". Have faith and know that one of the greatest gifts is to be born human and to have spiritual experiences.

"Sometimes when I meditate I experience a band of pressure around my head. It persists after I have stopped my meditation until I go to sleep. Should I be concerned about this? It is not painful, but it is worrisome."

You should ABSOLUTELY stop meditating at once. If this persists for any length of time you may end up like me. Believe me, you don't want that.

Mine is an exceedingly long story but I'll make it brief. 18 years ago I decided to try TM. Shortly into my practice I began to experience the exact head pressure you described during meditation. I soon began to experience it outside of meditation. I was told to keep meditating to push through it. Shortly thereafter the head pressure became permanent. Permanent, as in never goes away. Not for a second. I have lived with this miserable head pressure every second of every day for the past 18 years.

Nothing ever helped it. My energy system became so screwed up that there's nothing to be done. I'll have it for the rest of my life. At times it's unbearable but there's nothing to be done.

If I only knew what I was getting myself into....

I've obviously left out a lot of details here but it's been an absolute nightmare. And yes, I've had all sorts of medical tests which revealed absolutely nothing.

So, please for your own sake, stop meditating immediately.

There are many kinds of meditation (becoming familiar with one's mind); the goal is to release and open and to activate some parts of the brains that we tend not to use with regular activities.
