I'm a 16 year old and I do not wish to be enlightened for approval. It's true that I get frustrated for not seeing immediate results, butt after reading this I will only Concentrate on the journey and not the destination. I believe that if the human being was exposed to spirituality since their childhood, it would develop with us as we grow up. It would be as natural as we actually wish it was. We would have lived our first years focusing on the present, on exploring our inner selves. Why wait until being an adult?

Hello dear Deepak, I would like to give this young man a reply of my own if you don't mind.. :-)

By the way, I met you in Israel and shook your hand.. I loved the idea of you trying out to be a monk- it is wonderful! )

My response:

Dear friend! :-)

You remind me of myself in your age.. I think you are entering a dangerous trap here.. Trying to be too spiritual at an age where you should be growing up and maturing in the physical world, your own body and individuality and social interactions- this might be very harmful for you. Since instead of dealing with things you should be dealing with that are suitable for your spiritual development right now, you look for something which you are not really ready for. You sure Want it really bad.. But are you sure it's Really what you Need?

You didn't get the grades you wanted but now you want to be successful at another thing? in being "enlightened?" Let me tell you, even if you will achieve this state- then what do you think will happen or change? Then what will you do? You'll get disappointed again! Since you again fell into believing in something Others have told you- not what your Own soul wants from you!

Why are you following famous teachers and known people advices? what are they to you? do you really know them? do they know you? In the end you will discover that all you Really want is to be Loved! But why should you go all this long way to achieve this? You earned good grades to get the approval of your parents, teachers and yourself.. Now you want "enlightenment" to be approved by whom? Do you think that this is the source of true happiness? Sure you should find some joy and peace in it- but everlasting happiness doesn't come and stay just because you have reached certain realization about yourself! True happiness, Lasting joy and peace can only come by Love! By Loving yourself, Loving others and acting with Love for the good of All!

Love transforms us very gradually and slowly.. But it's the only and best way! they way things work in nature and should go! The fruits of the tree will not get ripened faster just because they really really want to! They will ripen Only when they are Ready! And as you know, all fruits ripen at the right destined time! When you try to hurry up things, you might only end up with a sour fruit.. Why not wait until the fruit will be ready? with enough sweetness (Love) in it too? You are the fruit! your actions are nothing as comparison with becoming a good, wise and loving person!

So just live up your own life! Fill it with Love! Do nice things for others and yourself.. Connect with your soul and look for this unique something you are meant to do in this world and only you can do..

Follow Your dreams! Dare to Fly! Be yourself! learn how to be compassionate, kind and loving! Learn by yourself what is right for You! Not by books! Observe and listen to your inner voice of your soul! Connect with God in your self- in your heart!

Realization? Enlightenment? what are those Really? except from reading about them- did you ever Really seen it? The pursuit of happiness is long being sought for- for ages! But do you see the world becoming a better place thanks to it?

Look for Love First! and the rest will follow! If you want enlightenment because secretly you want to be praised and loved by others- you are going at it in the wrong way! Why not try to Love yourself Now already?

Try it! and you'll see that you're good as you are now! You are still young, why are you hurrying up for? What are you escaping of? Are you doing this out of fear or love? I was like you and I made this mistake myself, I've missed my childhood and adolescence for a search which only made me miserable and fall to a dark pit eventually.. and it took me a longer time to get back to where I am Now! So why do it in a hurry? Do it Slowly but Surly! :-)

Your fife is like a pyramid- first things first! Take care of the base First! Spirituality comes at the end- at the right time when you'll be mature and ready enough.. If you'll start from the top- you'll end up falling.. so why hurry? Don't you trust that your soul and God will take good care of you?

Trust Love!
Have faith in yourSelf! Remember your loved ones, your family and friends.. and if you don't have any, make new ones! Give from yourself and share your life- for this is the Real source of happiness & true joy- for in Giving do we Receive! :-)

I'll be happy to hear from you if you'll want to.. :-)

Well. What is enlightenment? Knowing who I am.It is nearest when I search within; Farthest when I search elsewhere. Then - spiritual Laws are not Rules of discipline. They are LAWS - of natural behaviour.Earth doesn't follow Rules.Nothing in the universe makes or follows RULES - except man. And, man breaks rules and laws both frequently.
Thanks Deepak, for the sort of crusade you are running - for infusing wisdom in place of intelligence.

And what a great answer ...

Live in the present moment!

Such a simple statement but with a profound meaning and value!

Just great, thank you!

15 or 50 reminds me that we are all here on a separate yet similar path. This young spirit is indeed on an earlier path of releasing. I am wondering about my memory. Due to an illness 7 years back I can barely remember most of my 50 previous years. It's good and sometimes not so good. I am challenged daily with memory issues and am told to take medications I don't want to take. I want to heal myself and get off of Medicare. The beauty is what I don't remember, it's okay. The frustration is the repetition today. Any thoughts? Thanks for reading, Vicki

Hi. The 7 Laws will guide you OUT of your cage, not INTO a cage, but the secret of success lies within you. You must go deeper inside yourself, much deeper than egoic desire. I am an 18 year old guy who can relate to the 15 year old's remarks. Deepak's advice is, as always, right on. A daily meditation practice allows you to journey inward where the true Self may be found. Meditation is essential. I know what it's like to try to live up to external expectations. But, fortunately, I have a Spiritual Teacher who has become like my dad (I call him Dadji). Dadji is a Chopra Center certified teacher and now he guides me. Dadji gave me Deepak's 7 Laws. Like the 15 year old, I wanted enlightenment NOW! It was way to awesome to miss! Dadji told me early on, "Stop thinking about enlightenment! You will never find enlightenment by looking for it! Just stay on your path and study and meditate." Also, I practice yoga asanas. If "awareness" is troubling you, begin practicing yoga asanas. These physical postures can bring your physical, mental and spiritual awareness to new levels. Live in the NOW and learn to live a life of detachment. Detachment truly brings freedom (see Law 6). Once you discover who you truly are, you will begin to observe your physical (egoic) self through the "eyes" of your inward, true Self! What a show your ego can put on! It's too cool to miss (and too important not to do), so keep studying and watch as all the cares about grades and other worldly stuff drop off. Oh, but, yeah, you DO need to pass tests in school :) Namaste and Peace.
