It is a great profession but like anything it has its moments. I did consulting work on my own for a year in-between jobs and it was very rewarding. Something you said made me think that I am still chasing the dream of working for myself too. It is easier when you are young so start doing this. While you are home work on your ideas. Write them down. We need more independent thinkers today I am convinced. The greatest developments come from small companies. One suggestion, have a product as they continue to bring in the butter after your work is done. Sure it is confusing but trust yourself and go for it. Good Luck

I believe that you have to look inside yourself to find out what gives you the most pleasure and head in that direction. You only live once, and your working time is a big part of your life.
