I am struggling to dissociate from my parents. For years, I have had a tumultous relationship with them. They are not bad people, but we are just very diffirent individuals, with different values, and different world views. They do not respect these differences. I am 34 years old, and they still constantly try to control me and my life. They seem to have ‘parenting’ and ‘ownership’ confused. I am not able to let go, move on, and just live my life. They are constantly trying to communicate with me via phone calls, letters, and messages, even though I have made it clear I dont want to communicate with them. The constant negativity and stress has ‘paralyzed’ me – I cant go on with my life and achieve the things I want. How do I free myself from my internalized parents? Thankyou Deepak.

I definitely agree that your life and love happen in the present. However, if our consciousness creates our reality, then I don’t see it as important as to whether you are experiencing a connection with someone that began in this life or a past life. I think you should still embrace your expanded consciousness and not “close down” as you say. The important thing is to not attach to what you are experiencing, but instead merely observe it, and continue to move with the present moment. It is attachments that get us stuck, not the experiences. Good luck and may you find peace with your experiences.

…one more thought: since we are all Spirit – a manifestation of the Divine – I would imagine that it is possible to be present in the past as well as the future. The only problem would be that beings that you encounter may not currently be able to experience the same awareness because that ability or gift has not been developed in them as yet.

I was recently told about a process called ‘soul retrieval’ which was explained as follows: whenever we interact with a person they keep part of us and we part of them. ‘Soul retrieval’ was described to me as retrieving that part of the soul still with a person that is no longer in our life and does not love us.
I don’t know if I really believe this since we are all Spirit and ‘co-mingled’ anyway, but maybe the point is, as Deepak said, to be integrated in the present moment. Maybe ‘soul retrieval’ means being focused rather than scattered.

Wow, I have had the exact same experience as the questioner. After meeting this person I also had the sense of ‘presence’, like I carried his energy with me everywhere. It is certainly a very strange occurrence. I wholeheartedly agree with Deepak that we must concentrate on living in the present. I have been wondering why we meet these souls again in your current life though? Is there a message or lesson that needs to be learnt from this? This was the major question in my mind, if there is something that needs to occur with this connection.

I agree we can not live in the past but we can learn from the past and take the learning from past lives with us into the present to assist in our souls growth. thank you Deepak for your inspiration. namaste

What a complex situtation for the individual who wrote. Your advice is very moving. It’s so very interesting, how both fragil & stong elements are within human being, as we all go through life. I’m glad this person, no longer thinks that they are insane.
