In reply to <a href="https://choprafoundation.org/ask-deepak/quieting-anxiety-2/#comment-5517">Reneeil</a>.

Its correct that anxiety can be treated by breathing exercise...Pranayama to be precise.Only thing we have to keep in mind is that we have to be deligent in doing Pranayamas.Even if we do some of the basic pranayamas like Bhastrika,Kapaal bhaati and Anulom Vilom for 10 minutes each daily it does wonders in curing Anxiety.

I too took pills and hardly need them anymore because I have learned to breath in and out and meditate when possible. Also just taking the time to sit and enjoy the breeze, pet your kitty, take a bath, or call a friend can remove you from the negative. These and other simple things can help us come out of ourselves, interact with the world and feel good again.

Deepak is so very wise and right on. You will be wise to follow his advise.
I also have anxiety, and years ago was 'treated with prescriptions'. Understand that is the philosophy of some well meaning professionals. Personally, the meds were simply to treat, not to heal. They meds did not heal me - I did. Recognize what brings anxiety to you. Each moment is itself - it will be sort of like swatting pesky flies away if you're covered with honey. You have to wash away the honey. I don't mean to be abstract, sorry. But, do the work yourself - the meds won't take of it. Love yourself and make your decisions. You have the ability to do this, but excellent is the advice to slow down and be aware at the moment you're anxious, feel your breath and listen to your heart beat. Can't hear it?? Focus. You will have great results!!! Warm wishes and love to you.

Doing breathing meditation is helping for only at the moment. But to reduce your anxiety, we have to go to the root of what caused it.
It is also a time for us to learn who we are better.

For me, the anxiety is from fear, from the external approval you might have put too much your attention onto. It might become your habit or pattern of living your life this way.

We have to wake up from the unhealthy way of living. The harmful way that we were unconsciously shaped into who we are today, mostly come from our growing expereinces.

We deserve to be happy for being who we are. Find the love inside yourself, you can live your life fuller, and less fear.

Use meditation to examine your fear is a great start point to learn yourself better. When you filled with love, threre is no fear and anxiety.

with love,

I highly recommend mindfulness meditation! The key practice is to focus on breath, on the sensation of the breath coming in and out of the body. Simply start with breathing normally, don't try to change anything. Just watch the breath, how it comes in and out. Breath through the nose only, tongue on upper palette. Notice the breath on the edge of the nostril entrance, cool on the in, warm on the out. Just pay attention to the sensation. FEEL!

This brings us out of the mind, where anxiety exists. Mind going over so many "what ifs".

Practice sitting, 5 min. then up to at least 20, eyes closed, so it becomes a place to be center. Then, throughout the day, do this practice any time too many thoughts arise. Notice how breath feels on the nostrils, in the sinus, down the throat filling the belly like a bellows.

Practice paying attention to the body, to breath, as soon as thoughts arise, anxious feelings arise. Soon, the body will automatically relax when thoughts arise. Condition the body, like driving at car. It soon does the work for us.

Blessings to you!
