Here's a big reason I find for resiting meditation: Youth is defined by action.

Especially in America, and we have exported this, science is the instant answer to everything and youth is king. (The elderly are hidden away.)

Meditation seems like inaction. Goes against the very breeding from childhood to keep moving or you'll die. So we want Massive Action. Think that scurrying about is the answer to everything.

Thought action is important, meditation provide INSPIRED ACTION. Sitting for 30 minutes to clear the mind opens space for inspired action rather than a bunch of scrambling that doesn't add up to a meaningful existence.

(Then there is the Christian fear of anything eastern or any culture they conquered. Even bathing was lost for hundreds of years because it was a Roman practice 'i.e. pagan')

The deepest reason to resist meditation is ego. It will do everything to keep control of us. Ego knows meditation will lessen its grip. Ego will make your skin crawl, create craps, yell that mediation is a waste of time, or even distract you into stopping so you can write that symphony. Anything to maintain its death grip. As Beckwith likes to say, "ego doesn't know the difference between mediation & annihilation."

Let's help others lovingly learn meditation so the mass ego can be dissolved.

Thank you Deepak for being the one to entice me to meditate so many years ago!
