Listen to spiritually oriented music, and you may be surprised to find just how much deeper into your practice this takes you. Consider something like Krishna Das's Live from Earth (for a limited time only) or Breath of the Heart. You may enjoy blasting it if you like loud rock music. Or try Deva Premal for something lighter. One of my first favorites was Incantations, a very relaxing CD of Tibetan Monks chanting Om Mane Padme Hum. These can actually enhance your practice of meditation and still be a lot of fun. They also do live concerts or kirtans. Check out Omega's weekend of chanting in Rhinebeck, NY each Labor day. Or do a google search for kirtan in your area. Many are offered at yoga studios. Good luck!

I wear earplugs sometimes to sleep at night as now I can pick up the hum of transformers and other electrical sounds. Can't stay very long in stores with loud music playing and if people talk non-stop my ears begin to hurt. I listen deeply in my work in health care and injury treatment and when I come home I am hungry for silence. It is good to teach others to listen deeply too and be aware of all this loud noise in our society. Where do you go for that kind of silence?

For me the sensitivity goes to the level of intuition which makes me very aware of the collective vibe of group consciousness. If the concert has even the slightest bit of "mob" consciousness I avoid it. As for my sensitivity to sound, light, and smell I use those moments as opportunities to practice detachment. It's easier with sound for me but light and especially smell can be very difficult. Do what you can to protect yourself but don't judge or fear the irritations because it just amplifies the problem. Best wishes.
