First of all good and bad are relative.Imagine you are left on planet earth with no veg food ,no plants nothing and left with only animals you have no other option but to kill them to survive you will definitely shed your inhibitions to survive. So I think nothing is forbidden if you living from the soul level...but compassion will naturally flow when your perceiving every lifeform as your own extension....There is a pratice in India to pray before you have your food just to be grateful to plants because of which we survive...everything under the sun including sun are offered prayers...

I agree with Anurag. Having equal reverence toward all of life is the key. Eating meat without that deep appreciation for the being you are eating is unhealthy just as eating rice with the idea that it is not a living being or is of some lesser form of consciousness is also unhealthy. All bodies are of the same stuff. The industries of mass production beef, pork, & poultry have all lost this reverence yet the judgement, anger, & hatred that I see being expressed by so many vegans has also lost it's reverence.

i think, all life forms are the expressions of the same cosmic intelligence and so life and death have no meaning per se. its a self sustaining earth and so all living beings exist by feeding on each other. after all its all a permutation and combination of molecules at the micro level. but still, its the feeling with which we eat meat which matters probably. thats because we humans have a gift of awareness towards the universe. therefore, if we can thank the animal in our heart whose meat is lying in front of us and eat the meat with a feeling of humbleness and gratitude, then it should not matter. hope deepak shares his views here.

Being vegan/vegetarian is not a prerequisite to spiritual enlightenment. The Dalai Lama eats meat and he's far more enlightened than any of the Vegan's I've known. Eating more vegan based is certainly a healthier approach to living yet the idea that eating meat is a sin is simply wrong.

Veganism came to me naturally like Stephany said when i started meditating and living more spiritual life, it feels very natural ans there are no contradictive thoughts. Maybe if you are bothered so much with politics of it, you are not ready yet?

Hi!

I think Mr Chopra's answer sums it all. I've asked myself the same questions in the past. I realized that becoming a vegan isn't something you do because you can objectively prove that eating meat is bad (good and bad are subjective concepts).

I simply think that when you develop greater empathy, compassion and love toward all life, and when you realize that everything is ONE at the most fundamental level of reality, becoming a vegan is something that comes almost naturally.

As for not eating plants, I'm pretty sure that not all life forms can feel pain or stress the same way we do. I thus think that it is the degree of consciousness that really matters when trying to determine what you're willing to eat or not. :-)
