A parent's first duty and responsibility, is towards his or her children. Parents and in laws come much later. In fact, it is the duty of every grandparent to look for the welfare of their child, who in turn will look for the well being of his or her child. Every river flows from the source to the sea, not the other way round. No one is duty bound to pamper his parents or in laws, in the same way that he or she is duty bound to care for his or her child. It is out of our cultural upbringing, our conditionings and our goodwill, that we don't neglect our parents and in laws. But this is taken for granted in most socities, and not cherished. If grandparents were to cherish the fact that their children and grandchildren love and respect them, instead of taking it for granted, the world would be a much better place. But till such things can happen, one has to stand by one'c children, even if it means going against one's parents or in laws.
