try creating the negative thoughts purposefully for five minutes a day.

Try mindful meditation, stay in the present moment by being aware. Awareness seems to be the key. Letting go of many types of negatives and staying in the present helps me to enjoy life. Oh, I love anything to do with India and I am from a Lithuanian background. Also, there is a 21 day meditation series coming up on Chopra Center website - join in. Also, may I suggest Dr. Chopra's Healing Affirmations - just beautiful and truly healing in a most loving way...namaste

I am also from India, however i have diffrerent experience altogether. My family always supported me in whaterever i wanted to acheive and when I support them they are happy twofold. I think it is individual experience and not good to generalize, as India is a very diverse cultural country.
Infact we are spreading this negative thoughts of India to other places rapidly. My cousins live in USA and its the same there too. They only see negative points about India. All cultures and counties have thier own positives and negatives, wise are the ones those who make use of positives everywhere they go.

i think if you know who you are you know that you are not a negative person, so when negative thoughts come you don't own them, you don't try and justify them, you don't dwell on them you release them from you and and own the you that you know. Before long you will not even notice that you heven think negatively at times, why, because your focus is on all the good and positive thoughts. So rather than beating yourself up for thinking negatively each time you do that just shake it off and don't become like a watchdog for negative thoughts rather celebrate each time you find yourself thinking positively, that way you shift your consciousness to that which you are becoming and you focus less on that which you are not.
Enjoy yourself life is a journey and not a destination that you arrive at.

Thanks Lone. I don't have some traumatizing experience but it is a constant depressive feeling for not able to support my own family in spite of me being on a high profile job. This is because in India, girls are not supposed to support and my husband and his family follow this mentality. My own mother has not visited my for ten years after my marriage...its makes me panic....but then I console my self as being born in India

Dear Gauri, if you have not already tried it, I can recommend a session of Somatic Experiencing as a way to come even further if you have had really traumatizing experiences in the past. Love & Peace.

I also have the same problem of having negative thought all day for the people who tortured me. But I always target to do something big. so when ever I start my project of the day, my attention drift from negative thoughts to accomplish my current work. Sometimes even doing the current work, it goes back to negative thoughts but then fear of not completing the present task neglects all the negative thought at that moment.

I think Deepak is suggesting that if one knows their true self, they would not be worried about negative thoughts and asking this question.

Not too worry though, this just means you need to take a step back and continue to find out more about yourself. Meditation is the best method to experience the true self on a daily basis so I would start there.

Jeff,

He mentioned, the negative thoughts fade away out of neglect ( if you have really found ur true self) so there is nothing really you have to do to get rid of them.

I think this is an important question and that perhaps Deepak could expand his answer to describe the method(s) for releasing attachment to thoughts, especially negative ones.
