CAM-that is a very good way of communicating the individual choices we have as human beings.

A true desire for healing be it through spiritual prayer and understanding, or meditation on one’s true self, through alternative medicine or through the believing in drugs or other material means as a cure.

The honest desire for healing is what can make the meaning of CAM become harmonious alive for every human being. However we too must understand that true healing is always a matter of “Self Realization”, that alone constituting the Real Healing which is the very Revelation that man never was sick as a reality of being, or had his life, his true conscious being ever threatened, or was ever really in harm’s way. What can never be complementary is Truth and Error, mortality and immortality, Life and so called death, but in this human experience we are all unfolding so it would seem at various levels of understanding, and having the complimentary method of healing available and in accord with our individual understanding is a good idea in the forward march from just believing, to complete Conscious understanding as to what constitutes Perfect Health and Well Being.

Deepak, as a long-term and respectful follower of your philosophy and style of medicine, I completely agree with your observation. As a student of acupuncture and oriental medicine in the late 1900’s, it was my honor to be included in the creation of a consensus statement November 1997,at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. It was a roughty meeting of some of the best minds in both models of health care, working to form a tenuous bridge. After three days of diligence, we developed a milder, but profound statement of value regarding the ‘complimentary’ use of acupuncture in the treatment of pain and some chronic disease, primarily, but not limited to. It was when the initial courtship began, and yes it has been a rocky road to come to terms with the fears of our counterparts in ‘allopathic, pharmaceutical base’ care. It is my great honor and priviledge to say that the Navy is working on agreements to contract with acupuncturist in the treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), as it has demonstrated remarkable significant, measurable impact on the suffering. There are growing statistics generated to corraborate the use of acupuncture, as practiced by licensed acupuncturists, is having a great effect treating the newer challenges created by our country and our enemy’s weapons of destruction. While we can hope and pray, taking action each day to reduce war, we can also learn to treat our warriors with respect and the greatest degree of quality care.
