1. Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Hilarious Opening

Co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler may have been the funniest co-hosts to lead the Globes in decades. They kicked off the night awards with a hilarious monologue riffing on everyone from Ben Affleck and  Sarah Palin to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. “It’s the only night of the year where the beautiful people of film rub shoulders with the rat-faced people of television, said Poehler.

2. Jodie Foster comes out as lesbian in touching acceptance speech

Jodie Foster definitely stole the show at the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills last night. The 50-year-old actress and director won the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement, and many are calling her acceptance speech the highlight of the night. It was touching, honest, and funny all at once.

“I guess I have a sudden urge to say something that I’ve never been able to air in public that I’m a little nervous about,” Foster said. “I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age, in those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met.”

3. Adele’s joy and surprise at winning her first Golden Globe

After many months of seclusion, Adele returned to the red carpet for her first Golden Globe Awards — the first official public appearance she’s made since the birth of her son. Adele won the award for best original song in a motion picture, Skyfall, and dedicated the prize to her three-month old son:

“Oh my God. Oh my God. Honestly, I’ve come out for a night out with my friend. We’re new mums. We’ve literally come for a night out, I was not expecting this… It’s very strange to be here and thank you so much for letting me be part of your world for a night. It’s amazing, we’ve been p***ing ourselves, you know.”

5. Sacha Baron Cohen’s awesomely irreverent monologue

Oh no he didn’t! Presenter Sacha Baron Cohen drew giddy laughter from the crowd as he poked fun at everything from the narcissm of Hollywood actors to poor Anne Hathaway’s unfortunate wardrobe malfunction in December of last year.
